A great cup of coffee isn’t just for local coffee shop visitors any more. Instead, save your money and choose to brew your own cup of coffee at home that’s just as good as, if not better than what you can get at your local coffee shop. And it all starts with the best top-quality coffee maker under $100 and whole bean coffee.
The key to great coffee at home is without a doubt having gourmet whole bean coffee at your disposal. Now, there are two ways that you can purchase whole bean coffee. You can either buy it already roasted for you or you can buy green coffee beans and then roast them yourself at home (which is truly far less complicated than it sounds).
For our purposes here, we’ll assume that you’re simply looking to purchase whole bean coffee that’s already been roasted for you. An important factor to keep in mind is that as soon as coffee is roasted, it begins to lose its freshness. That’s why, although you may be tempted to, that you refrain from purchasing whole bean coffee from your local supermarket.
This type of whole bean coffee has been roasted off-premises and needed to be trucked to your local supermarket location. Even in the most ideal conditions, by the time it reaches your local store, the coffee can already be 5 days old. Once a coffee is roasted, it’s true flavor only lasts from about 7 days to up to three weeks depending upon the type of whole bean coffee you purchase.
And again, at your local grocery store, you don’t know how long that coffee has been on the shelf before you purchase it. Instead, to really get the best out of your coffee, you should consider buying your whole bean coffee from a roaster that literally “cooks to order.” Many online coffee retailers (like the ones on the right hand side of the page) roast the coffee and then immediately package it up and send it to you so that you receive the freshest coffee available.
Once you have that freshly roasted coffee, you can then use an at-home grinder to grind up the amounts you need when you’re ready to make a pot of coffee.
It’s very important that you only grind as much coffee as you’ll need and then store the rest of the whole bean coffee in an airtight container preferably away from extreme heat, cold, or light. Just like whole bean coffee that’s been roasted, ground coffee begins to lose its freshness very quickly and so you’ll want to act fast in order to have that perfect cup of coffee.
Be sure that you also use filtered water when brewing your coffee. This will make a very big difference in how your coffee tastes overall.
The coffee maker you choose can also play a very big part in how good your coffee tastes. Ideally your coffee maker should reach 200 degrees when brewing and should have that brew done in about 5 minutes or less.
To recap, in order to achieve the perfect cup of coffee you’ll want to:
- Purchase whole bean coffee from a reputable online roaster.
- Grind the coffee only when you’re ready to make a pot.
- Use filtered water in that coffee pot.
- Use a coffee pot that brews at a temperature of 200 degrees.
This will ensure that you have the freshest, best tasting coffee even at home and all while saving yourself a few dollars every day when visiting your local coffee shop.
